What we do
The spirit of the club.
|
The club has a relaxed atmosphere. Although there is a small degree of ceremony, we try to keep it to minimum. Sessions are taught in most cases by the Principle Instrtuctor, though it is not at all uncommon to find Bruce sitting it out and enjoying instruction from others. Classes have no particular format, though most start with Ukemi - rolling and breakfalling, since this allows a brief warm up and reduces the risk of injury due to being thrown or falling etc. Subsequently we will usually look at a technique with Taijutsu or an armed technique, then evolve the class from that. Occasionally we will concentrate on basic technique, stances (Kamae), but we rarely drill and the emphasis is always on learning how a foundation technique can be utilised in different scenarios or changed to suit the need. As a consequence no two classes are the same and we will often cover a lot of ground in a short time.
